Persia & Greece
For much of the Achaemenid period Greece was a collection of small city-states on the extreme north-west fringes of the empire. The Greeks had also established colonies in Asia Minor which came under Persian rule. Whereas the petty squabbles, alliances and disputes of these states are the central theme of Greek history, they were of little or no importance to either the Great Kings or the Persian Empire as a whole.
