Silver foundation plaque of Darius I (522–486 BC)Boxes containing gold and silver plaques, with the same text written in Old Persian, Elamite and Babylonian, were discovered by Ernst Herzfeld in the south eastern and north eastern corners of the main hall of the Apadana at Persepolis.
The text reads: Darius the Great King, King of Kings, King of countries, son of Hystaspes, an Achaemenian. Saith Darius the King: This is the kingdom which I hold, from the Scythians who are beyond Sogdiana, thence unto Ethiopia; from Sind, thence unto Sardis – which Ahura Mazda the greatest of the gods bestowed upon me. Me may Ahura Mazda protect, and my royal house. Persepolis, Apadana
